Aroostook County, Maine – June 21, 2012

A woman was hospitalized after a two vehicle collision on U.S. Route 1 Thursday afternoon.

According to the Caribou Police Department, 54-year-old Linda Theriault was traveling northbound in her 1997 Ford around 2:40 p.m. and attempting to turn left when she was rear-ended by the 2007 Ford Taurus driven by 64-year-old Edmond Bernier of Frenchville.

Ms. Theriault was transported to Cary Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Mr. Bernier and his passenger, 61-year-old Alberta Bernier, were not injured.

Both vehicles were totaled in the collision.

Officers are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
