Police say a traveler died Saturday during a collision in the Dry Ridge area.

According to troopers with the Kentucky State Police, 31-year-old Dry Ridge resident Tabatha J. Noble was behind the wheel of a 2006 Dodge Durango sport-utility vehicle as it traveled along Crittenden-Mt. Zion Road. Around 9:55 p.m., Ms. Noble observed a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier pull out of a nearby drive and into her path.

Investigators say Ms. Noble was unable to avoid a collision with the Cavalier, driven by Dry Ridge resident Jack G. Masters, 21. The impact caused the Durango to flip.

Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save Mr. Masters. His passenger, 20-year-old Kyle McMullen, was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment.

Two children in the Durango were also hospitalized. The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.

Police say a man was working on a car Sunday when it fell on top of him, killing him.

According to officers with the Louisville Police Department, the unidentified victim was working on the vehicle along Buckingham Drive around 5:20 p.m. Investigators say the car was lifted on a jack when it fell on top of him.

Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save him. Initial reports suggest the death was an accident.

The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety reports that 183 travelers were killed in traffic accidents in 2007.

A Saturday afternoon crash in Florence left two people injured.

According to reports, the wreck occurred around 12:30 p.m. on southbound Interstate 75, near the exit to Mount Zion Road. Two vehicles were involved, but additional details, including the cause of the accident, were not immediately available.

Two people sustained injuries in the wreck and were taken to University Hospital. Their names and conditions were not released.

A man was hurt Monday afternoon in a crash with a propane truck on U.S. Route 41 in Henderson.

According to a report from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, the crash occurred on northbound U.S. 41 at the Twin Bridges around 12:30 p.m. The report says 19-year-old Luke W. Powell of Henderson crashed a sport-utility vehicle into the rear of a propane truck, driven by 56-year-old Madisonville resident Robert A. Polk, who had stopped abruptly after a semi cut him off.

Following the accident, Mr. Powell was transported with unspecified injuries to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Mr. Polk was not listed as injured in the report.

According to the National Safety Council, more than 2.5 million rear-end collisions are reported every year, making them the most common type of automobile accident.

One person was injured Monday afternoon when a dump truck and passenger car collided west of Verona.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department reports the accident occurred around 3:25 p.m. in the area of U.S. Route 42 and South Fork Road, where a southbound Toyota collided with a northbound dump truck. Additional details, including the cause of the accident, were not immediately available.

The report says the unidentified driver of the Toyota was ejected from the car and subsequently was airlifted to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. It was not reported if the semi driver, whose name also was not released, was injured in the crash.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.

An early Tuesday rollover accident in Fort Thomas left four people injured.

The Fort Thomas Police Department reports the accident occurred around 2 a.m. when an unidentified male driver, 21, somehow lost control of a vehicle at Kentucky Route 8 (Mary Ingles Highway) and Tower Hill Road. The vehicle reportedly then overturned, ejecting the driver.

The man was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with unspecified, though non-life-threatening injuries. Three passengers in the vehicle reportedly sustained minor injuries and were taken to various hospital in the area. Their names also were not released, but police say they all are between the ages of 16 and 21.

The cause of the accident remains unclear, and authorities are continuing to investigate.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 80 percent of all rollovers involve no other vehicle besides the one that rolls over.

A man has died following a Wednesday morning accident involving two vehicles on Kentucky Route 1069.

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department reports the crash occurred on Route 1069 (Stagecoach Road) when a tan Ford Taurus, driven by 75-year-old Luann Haywood, and bronze Plymouth, driven by 17-year-old Joseph Martin, collided head-on. Additional details were not immediately available, but slick road conditions may have been a factor in the crash.

Following the accident, Ms. Haywood and her 55-year-old passenger, David Haywood, were transported to Baptist Health Madisonville. Mr. Haywood reportedly died as a result of his injuries around 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

Ms. Haywood’s condition is unknown at this time, and it is unclear if Joseph was injured in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.

A young girl was killed Tuesday night when the vehicle in which she was riding as a passenger crashed on a bridge in Hopkinsville.

The Hopkinsville Police Department reports the accident occurred around 6 p.m. when Amber K. Coleman, 29, of Hopkinsville, lost control of a Ford Explorer as she drove over an icy bridge on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The sport-utility vehicle reportedly then hit a guardrail.

The report says 5-year-old Brooklyn Coleman died at the scene of the crash. Amber Coleman was sent to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, and another passenger, Hopkinsville resident Brian F. Baker, 29, may have sustained minor injuries.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for ages 3 to 14.

A boy was mauled by a pit bull Wednesday night in Smith Mills and nearly lost his nose.

According to a report from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred around 10 p.m. at a house on Kentucky Route 136, where the dog attacked and ripped off the nose of Matthew Weaver, age 10.

Following the attack, the dog was caught and taken to a veterinarian’s office, where a surgeon removed Matthew’s nose from its stomach. The animal was then euthanized, and surgeons were able to successfully reattach the nose, the report says.

Additional details pertaining to the attack were not immediately available, and the dog’s owner was not identified.

A Providence man was killed Sunday morning in a wreck on northbound U.S. Route 41-Alternate outside the city.

According to a report from the Kentucky State Police, the crash occurred at about 1:40 a.m. when Providence resident Nicholas Marvel, 20, crashed a northbound Dodge pickup into a southbound Chevrolet pickup driven by John Jones, 46, of Providence. Additional details were not provided.

Mr. Jones reportedly died at the scene, and his 21-year-old passenger Jody W. Jones of Providence, was injured and taken to Regional Medical Center. Mr. Marvel and his 20-year-old passenger, Providence resident Jonathan Dame, were not listed as injured in the report.
