Two children and a woman were hurt after an all-terrain vehicle and a pickup collided 215th Road and Poplar by Fort Scott Monday evening.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, around 5:14  p.m. , 13-year-old Lute Karleskint was driving an ATV  west on Poplar Road when he failed to stop at the intersection and struck a southbound pickup driven by 41-year-old Natonya Berrbower. The impact caused the Chevrolet pickup to leave the roadway and roll over.

Lute was taken to Mercy Hospital in a unknown condition. Ms.Berrbower and passenger, 4-year-old Jessi Berrbower were taken to the same hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.

The National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that driver error was the primary cause in 90 percent of major traffic crashes.
