An accident on Kansas State Route 27 north of Goodland injured two people on Wednesday according to state police.

James Alan Meyers, 55, was waiting to turn his 2010 Dodge Dakota pickup when he was rear-ended by a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Jakalyn Van Allen, 19. The Kansas Highway Patrol stated that Mr. Meyers was wearing a seat belt, but Ms. Van Allen was not.

Both drivers were taken to Sherman County Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.

According to the National Safety Council, more than 2.5 million rear-end collisions are reported every year, making them the most common type of automobile accident.
