Police say a child bicyclist was injured Wednesday when he was hit by a vehicle in the Indianapolis area.

According to officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, an unidentified motorist was behind the wheel of a vehicle as it traveled near the corner of Stop 11 Road and Madison Avenue. Around 6:55 a.m., the driver made contact with a bicycle.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the rider, a child, to Indianapolis’s Riley Hospital for Children. Neither he, nor the car’s driver has been identified by name.

According to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, 13 cyclists died during accidents with vehicles in 2011.
