Montgomery County, Indiana — May 23, 2013

Police say a teenage motorist crashed Thursday in the Crawfordsville area, killing his twin brother.

According to officers with the Crawfordsville Police Department, 18-year-old Wingate resident Mitchell McCord was behind the wheel of a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck as it traveled south along Old State Road 55. As Mr. McCord approached North County Road 500 West, around 8:25 a.m., he apparently lost control.

Investigators say the Silverado left the roadway and flipped, throwing 18-year-old passenger Michael McCord from the wreckage. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Michael McCord to Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.

Mitchell McCord, meanwhile, was taken to the same hospital for treatment of shoulder bruising. Impact Teen Drivers was formed in 2008 to stop reckless and distracted driving among teens.
