Putnam County, Indiana — January 16, 2013

A local man was injured Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 40 outside of Greencastle.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department reports the wreck occurred around 3:10 p.m. at Putnam County Road 725 East. The report says 19-year-old Gilbert M. Query of Greencastle allegedly drove a 2000 Hyundai into the path of an eastbound 2001 Ford Ranger, driven by 23-year-old Jordan P. Gallant of Terre Haute.

Mr. Query was reportedly attempting to drive across U.S. 40 when the vehicles collided. Following the wreck, he was treated for a possible back injury. Mr. Gallant was not listed as injured in the report.

According to a report from the Indiana State Police, there were 188,132 traffic accidents resulting in injuries and/or property damage in 2011, and 674 accidents resulted in 749 total fatalities during that year.
