La Porte County, Indiana – October 2, 2012
Police say a government worker died Monday after being struck by a vehicle along the Indiana Toll Road in the Westville area.
According to deputies with the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department, an unidentified motorist was behind the wheel of a sport-utility vehicle as it traveled west along Interstate 80 (Interstate 90/The Indiana Toll Road). As the SUV approached Exit 39 (U.S. Route 421), around 10:15 a.m., it made contact with a subject on foot.
Investigators say Heston resident and Indiana Department of Transportation worker Daniel Miller, 32, had just exited a vehicle when he was hit. Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save Mr. Miller.
Meanwhile, an unidentified co-worker who was in the struck vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The SUV’s driver was taken to a hospital by helicopter for treatment of critical injuries.
