Bloomington, Indiana – June 20, 2012

A Springfield motorcyclist was killed this Wednesday after being hit in a head on crash on State Road 45 near Darrell Drive, just outside of Bloomington. Mark Conely, 56, was driving his 1997 Honda motorcycle north when Sandra Lee Sawyer-Hughey, a 54-year-old Washington native drifted left of the center line and crashed into him with her 2010 Mazda, throwing him from his motorcycle.

The Monroe County Coroner’s office declared him dead on scene. Mr. Conley had been wearing a helmet when the crash occurred. Ms. Sawyer-Hughey was taken to IU Health Hospital with complaints of chest pain.

Indiana State Police are still investigating the incident.

Indiana law states that motorcycle helmets are only required for riders under the age of 17.

What a shame that an innocent life was loss. My heart goes out to his family. Sandra needs to go to jail for life.
