The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene of severe accident neat the intersection of U.S. Route 6 and U.S. Route 31 where a pickup truck towing an animal trailer collided with a semi. The accident occurred at 11:45 a.m. and the pickup truck was found crumbled underneath the semi.

Both drivers survived the accident, but the man in the pickup truck had to be airlifted to the hospital. The semi was westbound on U.S. 6 and attempted to turn left onto U.S. 31 when the pickup went through a red light and hit the semi.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2008 more than 2.3 million reported intersection-related crashes, resulted in more than 7,770 fatalities and approximately 733,000 injuries.
