Elkhart, Indiana – February 10, 2012

Michelle Prough, 39, was injured Friday evening in an accident near the intersection of County Road 126 and County Road 11 at approximately 5:30 p.m. The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department believes that slippery roads due to icy weather was a factor in the crash.

Ms. Prough lost control while traveling eastbound on County Road 126 and struck a tree off to the side. She was issued a warning for driving too fast for conditions and was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. She was listed as having no passengers.

According to the National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, driver error is responsible for more than 90 percent of serious traffic accidents.
