Martinsville, Indiana — February 1, 2012
One person is dead in an accident involving a moped Wednesday evening in Martinsville at the intersection of Indiana State Route 39 and Mitchell Street. The Martinsville Police Department has not released the name of the person killed, pending notification of relatives.
Police say that the accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when an unidentified vehicle struck a moped. The driver of the moped was killed in the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was not listed as injured.
According to the National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, driver error is responsible for more than 90 percent of serious traffic accidents.
