Kokomo, Indiana — February 2, 2012
The Howard County Sheriff’s Department reported a single vehicle accident Thursday Morning on U.S. Route 31 that resulted in a fatality. The accident closed both northbound lanes and was the result of a rollover of a red Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The accident occurred just after 3 a.m., and the Howard County coroner was called to the scene. The name of the driver that was killed has not been released. The accident occurred just north of the Howard/Tipton County line on U.S. 31.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 1.13 fatalities occurred for every 100 million miles of travel in 2009. The rate in 1966 was 5.5 deaths per 100 million miles.
