Bloomington, Indiana — January 30, 2012
The Indiana University Police Department believes that William Greene, 58, may have had a heart attack before crashing his truck into a tree on Monday. The Monroe County Coroner stated that Mr. Greene did not die from injuries sustained in the accident.
Mr. Greene was said to be parking his truck near the Mellancamp Pavilion on the Indiana University campus when he drove off the road and collided with a tree.The accident left only paint scrapes on his truck. Toxicology results are pending.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 1.13 fatalities occurred for every 100 million miles of travel in 2009. The rate in 1966 was 5.5 deaths per 100 million miles.
