New Albany, Indiana — December 30, 2011

Sherry Lohden, 52, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on Friday when she pulled out in front of Thomas Mahoney, 76, at the intersection of Green Valley Road and Cross Creek Boulevard. The New Albany Police Department ruled that Ms. Lohden registered a .12 on a field sobriety test.

Ms. Lohden had stopped at the stop sign proceeding west on Cross Creek Boulevard whens he waited for traffic to clear. She did not see the 2004 Buick Le Sabre driven by Mr. Mahoney, causing him to hit her at a 90 degree angle when she entered the intersection.

William Spaulding, 40, was a passenger in Ms. Lohden’s vehicle and suffered non-life threatening head injuries.

According to the National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, driver error is responsible for more than 90 percent of serious traffic accidents.
