Richmond, Indiana — January 19, 2012

An accident involving four difference vehicles closed a portion of Interstate 70 around Richmond on Thursday. It is likely that adverse weather conditions were a factor, as snow was on the roadway at the time of the incident. The Indiana State Police were on scene to investigate.

The accident occurred on Thursday morning near exit 149 on the north side of Richmond. A white commercial van and a gray minivan were two of the vehicles involved. There was no word on if any injuries were involved, nor were the names of any drivers released.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
