Mishawaka, Indiana — December 30, 2011
The Mishawaka Police Department reported an accident that resulted in minor injuries near the intersection of Capital Avenue and Cleveland Road on Friday at 4:49 p.m. The accident involved three vehicles and is believed to have resulted when Sheila Barajas, 17, looked away from the roadway to check her cell phone.
Sheila failed to notice cars in front of her had stopped, causing her 2007 Chevrolet Aveo to strike the rear of of a 2005 Kia Elantra driven by Dora Moore, 61. The chain reaction caused Ms. Moore’s vehicle to hit a 2004 Chrysler minivan driven by Katherine Gendron, 54.
Ms. Moore complained of neck pain from the incident and was the only injury reported.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2008 more than 2.3 million reported intersection-related crashes, resulted in more than 7,770 fatalities and approximately 733,000 injuries.
