Bedford, Indiana — January 31, 2012
An accident involving an overturned semi trailer closed part of Indiana State Route 54 near Phillips Lane on Tuesday. the accident was said to have occurred close to 3 p.m. and it reduced traffic to one lane due to the overturned trailer.
It is not known if there were any injuries involved in this accident, nor were the names of those involved released. The Bedford Police Department was on the scene to investigate the matter. The total number of vehicles involved was also not released.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
