Muncie, Indiana — January 19, 2012

Jewel Dee Enterkin, 45, is being charged twice with DWI after she allegedly stole a car and caused a pair of hit-and-run accidents according to the Muncie Police Department. Ms. Enterkin was allegedly sent home from work due to her level of intoxication Thursday, where she allegedly stole a co-worker’s Oldsmobile Delta.

Ms. Enterkin then caused a pair of accidents on city streets, leaving the scene both times. after the second accident she was chased on foot by Muncie Police officers, before entering a home on Hoyt Avenue. She was found lying face down in the snow in the back yard.

It is unknown if there were any injuries in either accident, but Ms. Enterkin was reported to have a bloody lip. She refused a field sobriety test, but had a strong odor of alcohol at the scene.

According to the National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, driver error is responsible for more than 90 percent of serious traffic accidents.
