Hammond, Indiana — December 31, 2011

The Hammond Police Department has filed a report of an accident with injury at the intersection of Gostlin Street and Torrence Avenue that occurred at 8:06 a.m. Saturday. The accident is considered a hit-and-run, as one of the vehicles left the scene.

A 1992 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Mary Martorelli, 16, was traveling eastbound on Gostlin Street when the driver and an unidentified vehicle failed to give the right of way while leaving out of a private drive.

Mary then attempted to avoid the vehicle, but the front end of the unknown vehicle struck the rear end of her vehicle before leaving the scene.

Passenger Barbara Estrada, 41, complained of head pain at the scene.
