Indianapolis, Indiana – January 18, 2012
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an accident that killed a pedestrian on Wednesday near Greenwood Park Mall. Police say that an unnamed pedestrian was attempting to cross the street at the intersection of County Line Road and Madison Avenue.
The accident occurred at 6:45 p.m., and police say the pedestrian was not using the crosswalk. the name of the driver was not released. The driver was headed northbound on Madison Avenue.The driver is cooperating with the investigation.
The Governors Highway Safety Association reports that fatal pedestrian accidents increased in the first six months of 2010, the first increase in four years. North Carolina followed only Arizona and Florida for the greatest increase in pedestrian fatalities.
