Auburn, Indiana – October 21, 2011

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department reports that a fatal accident happened Friday night on Interstate 69.

According to reports, the wreck occurred around 7:15 a.m., and the deceased driver was 20-year-old Monon resident Tiffany A. Chamness. She had been driving a Mazda passenger car, and was headed south when the vehicle veered over the median and entered oncoming traffic. It collided with a tractor-trailer driven by 63-year-old Charleston, Illinois resident Connie Lee Cox.

Reports state that Ms. Chamness was thrown from the vehicle during the crash, and she died as a result of her injuries. Cox was not hurt.

It does not appear that police issued any citations in regards to the incident. They continue to investigate, and have not commented on what may have caused Ms. Chamness to lose control of the car.
