Sterling, Illinois — June 3, 2012

A woman from Sterling was reportedly cited following a two-vehicle accident on Illinois Route 40 Sunday morning.

The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office reports the crash occurred just before 10 a.m. at Quinn Road when 19-year-old Heather N. Rockwell struck with her Chrysler Sebring the rear of a Ford Ranger driven by 29-year-old Jodi S. Woessner, also of Sterling. According to the report, the pickup was hit as Ms. Woessner slowed to turn onto Quinn.

It is not clear from the report if anyone was injured in the crash, but the two drivers as well as a passenger in the pickup, 30-year-old Dan L. Woessner, all refused to be treated at the scene, the report says.

Ms. Rockwell was reportedly cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

According to the National Safety Council, more than 2.5 million rear-end collisions are reported every year, making them the most common type of automobile accident.
