Rockford, Illinois – January 30, 2012
The Rockford Police Department reports that a 40-year-old man was arrested Monday following a police chase.
According to reports, the suspect was Rockford man Melvin Bankhead. Authorities suspect he may be connected to a number of armed robberies that occurred recently in the Rockford area.
Authorities gave chase after spotting the vehicle of Mr. Bankhead traveling near N. Main Street. The pursuit proceeded to the crossing of Halsted Road and Rockton Avenue, where the vehicle of Mr. Bankhead reportedly struck a pedestrian.
Finally, Mr. Bankhead crashed at the intersection of Gilbert Avenue and Kilburn Avenue. Police apprehended him as he attempted to flee the scene.
There was no word on the extent of any injuries sustained by the struck pedestrian.
