Springfield, Illinois – January 21, 2012

The Springfield Police Department reports that slippery conditions may have factored into a fatal crash that happened Saturday evening in Springfield.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. on South Sixth Street Road. The man who died was 22-years-old, but he has not been identified by name at this time. Police say the vehicle involved in the crash was traveling south, and it was close to McFarland Mental Health Center when it went out of control and rolled off the roadway.

The truck collided with a fence before coming to rest, and the unidentified driver was thrown from the truck partway. The resultant injuries led to his death on site.

Police are continuing to investigate, and they have not confirmed if ice or snow caused the accident.
