Metropolis, Illinois — January 7, 2012

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office reports the death of a 48-year-old man following a collision in Metropolis.

According to reports, the fatal incident happened Saturday during the evening hours. The deceased individual was identified as Roy Sledd, and authorities say he was on foot when struck by a vehicle on an unknown roadway of Metropolis.

Emergency personnel attempted to save Mr. Sledd’s life by airlifting him to Harrisburg Medical Center, but his traumatic injuries led to his death.

Police are continuing to investigate at this time, and it remains to be seen if any citations will be issued. The driver of the vehicle that struck Mr. Sledd has not been identified.
