Clinton County, Illinois – June 9, 2011
A Thursday morning crash left one motorcyclist dead and another injured, according to reports from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.
The two motorcycles involved in the collision had been part of a trio of bikes traveling down U.S. 50 around 9 a.m. Reports state that an unidentified Odin resident, 16, was driving a car in the opposite direction on the same road. He reportedly veered into the oncoming group of motorcycles after the car first left the road, causing him to take corrective action as his car neared Shattuc Road.
The fatally-injured motorcyclist was Grove City, Ohio resident Lawrence Meade, 67. Following the impact with Mr. Meade’s bike—which set both the car and the bike on fire—the 16-year-old’s vehicle also hit the motorcycle of Richard McGurk, 64.
Mr. McGurk went to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment, while the 16-year-old went uninjured, along with Kenneth Hess—a passenger in the car.
