Buckle up this Thanksgiving for the safety of your life and your wallet as “Click it or Ticket” makes a big move over the holiday weekend.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that from November 24 to November 27 state, county and local police departments across the Midwest are tightening their lookout for seat belt violations. The states that will be cracking down include Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Minnesota. Teenagers, males, young adults, nighttime riders, rural drivers and people in pickup trucks are less likely to wear seat belts than other travelers according to the NHTSA.
The NHTSA also claims that approximately 12, 700 lives were saved in 2009 simply by wearing a seat belt, and over 3,500 could have been saved if a seat belt had been worn. Thanksgiving weekend 2009 303 people were killed in road accident, 187 of those accidents occurred at night.
Wearing a seat belt is free and takes only a few seconds to put on. Not wearing a seat belt could cost you your life. Buckle up this holiday weekend.
