How to survive a submerged car: take two

Last week we highlighted an article from Car and Driver, in which author Tony Quiroga and illustrator Chris Philpot take a dry, humorous approach at offering some advice about how to escape from a sinking car. Continuing on this theme, we’ve tracked down a Howcast video which provides an even-more-visual tutorial on some things to keep in mind if you find yourself in this nightmare scenario. The first thing you’ll need? Self-composure. This may be hard to find, but once you’ve got your wits about you, the video goes on to instruct on some basic steps you can take toward survival. If nothing else, after watching this clip you’ll at least remember the acronym POGO: Pop seat belt, Open the window, and Get Out . . . Aside from a stray pair of jeans flying out of the window of a slowly-sinking car, the Howcast approach is less humorous than that of Car and Driver, but it reaffirms some principles that the safety-conscious will definitely want to keep in mind.
