Highway patrol troopers were called to the scene of an accident involving a semi on Interstate 580 near Strobridge Avenue in Castro Valley on Tuesday.

The accident happened at around 11 a.m. when the brakes on  pickup towing a horse trailer locked up as the driver tried to pull to the side. The trailer was hit from behind by another semi according to the California Highway Patrol.

It is not known if there were any injuries.

According to the National Safety Council, more than 2.5 million rear-end collisions are reported every year, making them the most common type of automobile accident.
