Yuba City, California – January 13, 2014

Highway Patrol officials near Yuba City were forced to close part of California State Route 99 due to a fatal accident on Monday.

The accident happened just after 8 a.m. near Sacramento Avenue according to the California Highway Patrol. The accident was reportedly between a semi and a passenger vehicle according to officials.

No names were released in the accident, but the victim was declared dead at the scene.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration reports that trucking accidents may be rising across the United States. There were 3,686 people killed and 80,000 injured in truck crashes in 2010, and the numbers rose higher the following year.
