San Bernardino County – November 18, 2013

Police say a motorist was killed on Monday during an accident with a trucker in the Victorville area.

According to deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, an unidentified trucker was behind the wheel of a semi as it traveled along Interstate 15. As the driver approached Stoddard Wells Road, at an unknown hour, he pulled onto the shoulder and stopped.

Around 5:30 a.m., 59-year-old Granada Hills resident Guy A. Spells approached from the north. Investigators say he drifted off the roadway and struck the stopped semi.

Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save Mr. Spells. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
