Fresno County, California — November 14, 2013

Police say a pedestrian died Thursday after being hit by a vehicle and dragged in the Fresno area.

According to officers with the Fresno Police Department, an unidentified motorist was behind the wheel of a truck as it traveled through the area during the evening hours. As the driver approached the corner of G Street and San Benito Street, he made contact with a subject on foot.

Investigators say the pedestrian, Jimmy Hill, 66, was dragged for several blocks. Rather than stopping to administer aid, the truck’s driver fled the scene.

Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save Mr. Hill. Witnesses have been asked to call (559) 498-STOP.

Accidents claimed the lives of 596 pedestrians in 2009, while another 13,083 were injured in accidents in 2009, the California Highway Patrol reports.
