Contra Costa County, California – November 4, 2013

Police say a motorist was hurt Monday when his vehicle collided with a school bus in the Concord area.

According to troopers with the California Highway Patrol, an unidentified driver was operating the bus on behalf of the Mount Diablo Unified School District as it traveled near the corner of Krona Lane and Pine Hollow Road. Around 6:55 a.m., the driver pulled away from a stop sign and into the path of a Toyota Prius.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the driver of the Prius to Walnut Creek’s John Muir Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Authorities say two students from Pine Hollow Middle School were on board the bus at the time of the crash, but neither was hurt.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that in 2008 there were 307 fatal bus accidents. 39 of those accidents occurred in California.
