Police say a motorcyclist died Thursday during a collision with a  delivery truck in the Garden Grove area.

According to deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, an unidentified motorist was behind the wheel of a delivery truck on behalf of Federal Express as it traveled through the area around 12:25 p.m. As the driver approached the corner of Monarch Street and Orangewood Avenue, it made contact with a motorcycle.

Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save the rider, 24-year-old Corona resident Ryan Turner. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there were 4,778 fatalities as a result of collisions involving motorcycles in the United States in 2006.
