Officials say a pedestrian died and two motorists were injured after a collision in Armona Saturday morning.

According to California Highway Patrol, a 22-year-old male pedestrian was attempting to cross California State Route 198 near 14th Avenue when he was struck by a 1999 Chevrolet driven by a 42-year-old male motorist.

The pedestrian, a resident of Lemoore, was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

The motorist, a resident of Hanford, was hospitalized with serious injuries after the 2:45 a.m. wreck. His 11-year-old juvenile passenger sustained minor injuries.

Officials are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles reports that 623 pedestrians were killed and 12,668 pedestrians were injured statewide in collisions in 2010.

UPDATE: The pedestrian has been identified as Nevin Place.
