Officials say a college football player died after being struck by a vehicle in San Clemente Sunday morning.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, 20-year-old Nick Pasquale, a University of California Los Angeles receiver, was walking in a residential neighborhood when he was struck by a vehicle driven by an unidentified motorist.

Mr. Pasquale, a resident of San Clemente, died from his injuries in the 1:35 a.m. wreck.

He was a redshirt freshman at UCLA whom played briefly in the August 31 game against Nevada.

No one else was hurt.

Officials are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

According to America Walks, 90,000 pedestrians are injured and 6,000 die in accidents each year.
