Police say a motorist died after a two-vehicle collision in Eureka Sunday morning.

According to the Eureka Police Department, the male driver of a Hyundai and the female driver of a Toyota pickup truck collided at the intersection of California Street and Grant Street. The impact caused the pickup truck driver to flip her vehicle multiple times.

The pickup truck driver was transported to St. Joseph Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The male driver and his female passenger were not hurt in the 10:05 a.m. wreck.

The identities of those involved have not been released.

Officers are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2008 more than 2.3 million reported intersection-related crashes, resulted in more than 7,770 fatalities and approximately 733,000 injuries.

UPDATE: The deceased motorist has been identified as 33-year-old Melissa Hughbanks of Eureka. The driver of the other vehicle has been identified as 35-year-old Knut Frandburg of Stockholm, Sweden. His passenger has been identified as Anna Andersson also of Sweden.
