Officials say a motorcyclist and two motorists were hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision near Patterson Saturday night.

According to California Highway Patrol, 61-year-old Marie Pinheiro was attempting to turn left in her 1998 Pontiac Grand Am at the intersection of Crows Landing Road and Bradbury Road when she collided with a 1996 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by 41-year-old Timothy Rahe. Mr. Rahe was thrown from his motorcycle upon impact.

Mr. Rahe was transported to Doctors Medical Center with serious injuries.

Ms. Pinheiro and her 14-year-old passenger were transported to Emanuel Medical Center with minor injuries after the 11:30 p.m. wreck.

Officials are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2008, 5,290 motorcyclists were killed—an increase of 2 percent over the 5,174 motorcyclists killed in 2007. There were 96,000 motorcyclists injured during 2008.
