State police investigate a semi accident on Interstate 80 near Applegate that led to a fire according to reports.

The accident happened at 1 a.m. Tuesday according to the California Highway Patrol when the truck carrying french fries from Burger King suffered burning brakes. The heat from the brakes caused the rest of the rig to catch fire and the trailer walls to melt.

It is not known if there were any injuries involved in this accident.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
