Officials say one motorist died in a two-vehicle collision in Livermore Thursday night.

According to California Highway Patrol, the unidentified driver of a truck and the unidentified driver of a second vehicle collided for unknown reasons around 11:10 p.m. near the intersection of Altamont Pass Road and Dyer Road. It is not clear whom had the right-of-way at the time.

One motorist died. His identity has not been released.

It is not known how many motorists were involved or the extent of their injuries.

Officials are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that more than 500,000 semis and large commercial vehicles were involved in traffic crashes in 2010. Those accidents resulted in injuries to more than 100,000 people and more than 5,000 deaths.
