A man died after his truck left the roadway and dove into the harbor near the Port of Los Angeles on the Evergreen Container Terminal Monday afternoon.

According to the Los Angeles Police Deparment, around 3 p.m., a 45-year-old Mark Pasaro was driving a semi was dropping off containers around the port when for unknown reasons his vehicle left the roadway and fell into the harbor.

The fire department attempted to free the Mr. Pasaro in time but, he had been trapped in the vehicle too long and died at the scene of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.

According to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, 4,690 workers were killed on the job in 2010 — more than 90 a week or nearly 13 deaths every day.
