Officials say a bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle in Lake Elsinore Sunday morning.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, 38-year-old Lucia Ruano of Lake Elsinore was riding on her bicycle near the intersection of Grand Avenue and Marvella Lane around 8:40 a.m. when she was rear-ended by a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by an unidentified motorist.

Ms. Ruano was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.

The truck driver’s name was not released. It is unknown if he will be charged in this case.

Officials are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles reports that 110 bicyclists were killed and 12,653 bicyclists were injured statewide in collisions in 2010.

UPDATE: The truck driver has been identified as 40-year-old Jay Dustin Sorrell of Lake Elsinore. He is charged with driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
