Police say a pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in Eureka Thursday.

According to the Eureka Police Department, 61-year-old Nancy Sarr of Eureka was attempting to reverse her Toyota Highlander in the CVS Pharmacy parking lot, located near the intersection of West Harris and Central Avenue, when she failed to yield and struck 59-year-old Allan Cook of Eureka.

Mr. Cook was transported to St. Joseph Hospital with unspecified injuries. Ms. Sarr was not hurt.

Officers are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that a pedestrian dies in a U.S. traffic accident every 110 minutes and one is injured every nine minutes.
