Officials say three motorists sustained injuries after their vehicle crashed into a guardrail in Perris Sunday night.

According to California Highway Patrol, an unidentified male motorist was traveling in his GMC pickup truck near the intersection of Interstate 215 and D Street around 7:15 p.m. when he lost control for unknown reasons, left the roadway, and struck a guardrail. The impact caused at least one motorist to be trapped within the vehicle for an extended amount of time.

Three motorists sustained unspecified injuries. A fourth motorist refused medical treatment. Their identities have not been released.

Officials are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, trees are the most common fixed object struck. Utility poles and traffic barriers were the next most common objects struck.
