Officials say six motorists were seriously injured in a four-vehicle collision in Corona Wednesday afternoon.

According to California Highway Patrol, four unidentified motorists collided for unknown reasons around 11:25 p.m. near the intersection of Interstate 15 and California State Route 91. It is not known whom had the right-of-way at the time. At least two motorists were trapped within their vehicles for an extended amount of time.

Six motorists sustained serious injuries. Their identities have not been released.

Officials are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports 18.6 percent of all crashes in 2009 happened off the roadway or on the median or shoulder.
