Officials say a motorist died after a two-vehicle collision near Menifee Friday.

According to California Highway Patrol, 71-year-old Francisco Aldareguia of Perris was traveling in his pickup truck when he failed to yield at the traffic signal at the intersection of Winchester Road and Washington Street and collided with the vehicle driven by 55-year-old Ronald Owens of Sun City.

Mr.  Owens was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

Mr. Aldareguia sustained minor injuries.

Officials are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2008 more than 2.3 million reported intersection-related crashes, resulted in more than 7,770 fatalities and approximately 733,000 injuries.
