Officials say one motorist died and two others were injured after crashing and flipping their vehicle in Placerville Friday morning.

According to California Highway Patrol, 25-year-old Laura Duggin of Diamond Springs was traveling in her 1996 Toyota Corolla near the intersection of California State Route 50 and Red Hawk Parkway around 11:10 a.m. when she lost control, drove into the median, crossed back over the roadway, struck a rock wall, and flipped her vehicle.

One of Ms. Duggin’s passengers, 19-year-old Vincent Rapolla, died from his injuries.

Ms. Duggin was flown to Mercy San Juan Medical Center with critical injuries. She may be pregnant.

Her other passenger, 18-year-old Ashley Valdez, was transported to University of California Davis Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this incident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 80 percent of all rollovers involve no other vehicle besides the one that rolls over.
