Solano County, California – December 5, 2012
Police say a traveler died Wednesday during a reported hit-and-run crash in the Fairfield area.
According to officers with Solano County Sheriff’s Department, 23-year-old Fairfield resident Alex Perez Jr. was behind the wheel of a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck as it traveled along Peabody Road. As Mr. Perez approached Chuck Hammond Drive, during the early morning hours, the vehicle struck a subject on foot.
Rather than stopping to administer aid, Mr. Perez fled the scene. Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save the victim, 28-year-old Fairfield resident Moses Sala.
His remains were discovered around 8:55 a.m. Authorities caught up with Mr. Perez roughly two hours later and he was placed under suspicion of hit and run.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nearly 300 people are killed in hit-and-run accidents in California each year.
UPDATE: Mr. Perez has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter in connection with the incident.
