Police say a vehicle fatally struck a bicyclist Monday in the Buena Park area.

According to officers with the Buena Park Police Department, an unidentified motorist was behind the wheel of a vehicle as it traveled through the area around 5:55 p.m. As the driver approached the intersection of La Palma Avenue and Knott Avenue, it made contact with a bicycle.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the male rider, 20, to the University of California-Irvine Medical Center, but doctors were unable to save him. Meanwhile, the driver — identified only as being over 40 — was taken to West Anaheim Medical Center for treatment.

UPDATE: The deceased victim has been identified as Buena Park resident Jeremy Kidder, 20. He was hit by a driver, 41, operating a gray Chevrolet sport-utility vehicle.
